Video sharing integrated into updated Cantaloupe Backlight video player

Friday, September 11, 2009 by Kevin Martin
Based on client feedback, we're excited to announce new sharing options within the Backlight video player.  Viewers are now able to easily post your videos to Twitter, Facebook, and a few popular social bookmarking websites.

SEO Impact: Since video sharing impacts video SEO, these new player enhancements further enhance how Backlight boosts your SEO efforts.  If you haven't already, make sure to check out our new white paper focused on video SEO.

There's no need to change any settings within Backlight to take advantage of the new features.  As long as you've had "sharing options" turned on for your videos, your viewers will see the new sharing options.

You'll also notice the menu button is gone and the new share menu option is overlayed on top of the video (and the options go away while watching the video unless someone moves their mouse over the player).  This player release also included polishing up the look-and-feel and fixing a few bugs.

We always invite your feedback.  If you have any questions or problems, please contact us.

New and improved video layout templates give you more control, flexibility

Thursday, June 11, 2009 by Kevin Martin
You may have noticed that when creating a video layout within Backlight, standard templates have now changed.  The new standard templates allow you to set colors and layout options directly within the layout builder - making brand profiles no longer necessary to change colors for your layouts.

*Note: previous video layouts were automatically switched over to new templates during the release...

In addition to better standard template functionality, we're excited to announce that you can now upload your own custom templates...that means your HTML/CSS gurus can design video templates and upload them, then anyone in your organization can utilize the custom template to build video layouts.

We think this new functinality will help you get more use out of your videos.

Stay tuned for more information about upcoming webinars and training sessions that will help you take advantage of the new video layout functionality...all designed to help you get the most out of your videos.

Improved management of links, images, ads, tags

Wednesday, March 25, 2009 by Kevin Martin
You'll notice a few changes in Backlight designed to make it easier to manage video tags & ads, and layout links & images.  You'll see that the "Library" and "Ads" links have been removed from the main navigation.  You'll find new "Manage Ads" and "Manage Tags" buttons at the top of the videos section as well as "Manage Links" and "Manage Images" buttons at the the top of the layouts section.

Updated navigation:

These new placements make it easier to understand that tags and ads are used for videos while links and images are only used when building layouts.

Buttons at the top of the video page:

Another nice feature is that you can create/edit links and images when in builder mode.  This allow you to make on-the-fly changes as you are building layouts.
